Data Residency in Twilio Console

Company: Twilio | Product type: CPaaS, SaaS | Year: 2025- 2026

Overview

Twilio is a cloud communications platform with programmable APIs for voice, text, email, and video. For a year, I led Data Residency across the Twilio Console, making it simple for enterprise customers to keep personal data in a specific region (US1, IE1, AU1) to meet requirements such as GDPR.

The problem
The legacy console repeated the whole product tree for every region, so it didn't scale. The business needed more regional channels, customers couldn't tell where their data lived, and product teams had no shared pattern for building regional experiences.

My role
I led the strategy and design end to end. I shaped the scope and point of view with PM and Engineering, and validated the direction through research and several rounds of usability testing. When leadership pushed for a global switcher, I didn't say no; I showed them a path: a per-product MVP first, then step by step to global. Beyond shipping the components, I aligned 9 product teams and 9 designers on one pattern so the experience stayed consistent across the Console, and mentored a junior designer along the way.

Outcome
Built once, any team switches it on. Shipped for Twilio SIGNAL: 1 new channel launched in Ireland (IE1), 1 bank deal unblocked, ~80% faster go-to-market for design and front-end, and 9 product teams using the components.
