Making data residency simple and scalable across Twilio Console.
Twilio is a cloud communications platform powering voice, messaging, email and video through APIs.
I led the end-to-end design of Data Residency across Twilio Console, helping enterprise customers manage where their personal data is stored (US1, IE1, AU1) to meet regional requirements such as GDPR.
The challenge
The existing Console duplicated entire product structures for each region, creating a model that wasn't scalable.
As Twilio expanded into new regions, customers needed a clearer way to understand and manage where their data lived. Meanwhile, product teams lacked a shared design pattern for building regional experiences.
My role
I led the strategy and design end to end, partnering closely with Product and Engineering to define the approach, shape the scope and validate solutions through research and usability testing.
When leadership pushed for a global switcher, I didn't say no; I showed a path. I proposed a phased approach, starting with a per-product MVP and building towards a global experience.
Beyond the core experience, I aligned 9 product teams and 9 designers around a shared pattern, ensuring consistency across the Console. I also mentored a junior designer throughout the project.
